In Southern California, Cyrus is constantly in demand as an orchestral musician and has had the pleasure of performing at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, Zipper Hall, the Broad Stage, Meng Hall, the Irvine Barclay Theater, the Carpenter Center, the Alex Theater, and Royce Hall. He has performed as a soloist in Winifred Smith Hall and Daniel Recital Hall.
As a string educator, he maintains a private studio and teachers in other capacities for schools and Academies. His students have auditioned into Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is an avid chamber musician and collaborator.
Cyrus performs on an Amati pattern viola finished in 2002 by Zhang An, graduate of the Violin Making International School of Cremona, located in Italy and recipient of a medal of distinction from the Italian International Violin Making Competition. His bows are an early work from the 1950's by Horst Schicker of Germany and a modern, but distinctive work of A. Carvalho, Brasil.
He also performs on a Austrian violin from 1815 crafted by Meinrodus Frank. He also owns and performs on a violin made in 1956 made by the German luthier Ernst Heinrich Roth. The violin bows he prefers are made by the French, currently in the stable include a Nicholas Marie (ca. 1920) and Francis Mouton (2005). He also is an advocate of the carbon fiber bows made by CodaBow.
He has had the privilege to have studied with violists Robert Becker, Dr. Jerzy Kosmala, and Dr. Minor Wetzel. And for violin, William Fitzpatrick, and Anne Thatcher. He studied conducting with Dr. Stephen Tucker.
Cyrus enjoys motorsports, gardening, and cooking. As a former employee of William-Sonoma, Inc., he is a proud owner of French Mauviel copper cookware, far too many tomes on cookery and a exhaustive (and somewhat ridiculous) collection of Japanese, German, and French cutlery. And an American one, too.
